HONG KONG—Chinese authorities have introduced a FedEx Corp. pilot detained nine months in the past in the southern city of Guangzhou, easing a pressure issue on the shipping and delivery big that has been in Beijing’s crosshairs amid industrial disputes concerning the U.S. and China.

Retired U.S. Air Force colonel Todd A. Hohn was detained in September even though waiting for a industrial flight just after traveling deliveries during Asia from the FedEx regional hub in Guangzhou.
