To give further more impetus to rice exports, the Centre has set up a new overall body – Rice Export Advertising Forum (REPF), below the aegis of the Agricultural and Processed Foods Export Advertising Enhancement Authority (Apeda).
Rice, each basmati and non-basmati variety, is the premier commodity in India’s agri-export basket. Shipments stood at $seven.77 billion in 2018-19, with basmati exports at $4.72 billion and non-basmati at $three.05 billion. Final export figures for 2019-20 are yet to be unveiled by Apeda.
“Considering the relevance of export of rice, its inherent potentials and the multifarious problems, which are faced in the procedure, it is made the decision to constitute a Rice Export Advertising Forum,” an Apeda notification stated.
The new overall body will comprise reps from the rice field, exporters, officers from Apeda, Commerce Ministry, Agriculture Ministry and Administrators of Agriculture from key rice creating states such as West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
“The EPF will make concerted attempts to identify, document particulars and get to out to stakeholders across the whole production/ offer chain of export of rice for rising these exports appreciably to the international industry, by means of different interventions,” the notification stated.
EPF will monitor, identify and anticipate developments pertaining to production and exports and advocate necessary plan steps. It will be in contact with rice producers, exporters and other suitable stakeholders and listen to their difficulties, and facilitate, assist and give answers to them.
